Applications are invited for the position of part-time (0.5 FTE) Teacher of Philosophy and Religion from September 2024. The post provides the opportunity to teach Philosophy and Religion at KS3, GCSE and A-Level. We are looking for a well-qualified and inspirational specialist teacher who is committed to fostering critical thinking skills on issues in religion, philosophy and ethics and preparing them for life-long learning as well as public examinations. A willingness to participate in a possible future Global Perspectives pathway at GCSE would also be desirable alongside experience of teaching other humanities subjects.
We are offering work in a thriving department and as part of a team with a good track record of uptake at both GCSE and A-Level. Small classes in specialist rooms ensure adaptive teaching and meaningful communication with students. The subject is highly regarded by staff and students for its relevance and focus on existential issues, its success at public examinations, its networking with other subjects and multiple extra-curricular engagements including excursions abroad.
The ideal candidate will be an inspiring and innovative teacher who can demonstrate flair in the classroom and motivate as well as challenge students of all abilities.
Necessary requirements will be a graduate specialism in either Philosophy, Theology, Religious Studies or closely related disciplines as well as relevant teaching qualifications and the willingness to take on GCSE and/or A-Level classes. Desirable would be teaching experience in Buddhism and Christianity.
